According to the Daily Mail, a new ‘seriously wealthy’ consortium from the United States is looking to swoop and buy Newcastle United.

The Magpies are struggling on the pitch as they are still searching for their first win of the season, with Rafael Benitez’s men really in need of a boost.

Benitez himself is looking for a positive, and one may just come off the pitch in regards to the club’s takeover situation, with rumours continuing.

Owner Mike Ashley put the club up for sale a year ago, and Amanda Staveley is the only one to have held seriously talks about a deal in that time, with Magpies fans desperate for anybody to step in and take the club from Ashley.

Ex-Chelsea and Manchester United man Peter Kenyon was recently linked with fronting a consortium to buy the club, but the Daily Mail now report that US investors – described as being ‘seriously wealthy’ – are now looking to swoop in.

Those businessmen are understood to be willing to meet Ashley’s £300million asking price for the club, but they do have a problem if they deal drags on, as they don’t want to spend a huge sum on the club if they remain in the bottom three.

The consortium allegedly see huge potential in Newcastle, and would want to back Benitez in the transfer market, something he has rarely been given under Ashley.

Newcastle fans will hope this isn’t another false dawn, having seen the Staveley move fall through earlier this year, and will hope that Benitez really is given funds from seriously wealthy backers.
