According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero hopes to sign for Everton at the end of the season.

It’s noted that Romero’s wife was raging when United blocked Romero from joining Everton back in October.

The Toffees ended up signing Robin Olsen on loan from Roma, and Romero has been frozen out at United all season, failing to make a single appearance.

Romero’s £70,000-a-week contract at United expires this summer, and it’s suggested that Boca Juniors and River Plate want to lure him back to Argentina this summer.

However, Romero wants to join Everton, seemingly holding out for a move to Goodison Park having been denied the switch more than six months ago.

A move does make sense for all parties. Everton would have to pay a fee to sign Olsen permanently, whereas Romero would be a free transfer.

Additionally, the 34-year-old is a favourite of Marcel Brands having been at AZ Alkmaar together, with the Dutchman surely driving Everton’s interest.

The veteran can compete with Jordan Pickford moving forward, giving Everton two proven Premier League stoppers for Carlo Ancelotti to choose from – if they can finally get a deal done.
