According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero is now open to leaving the club.

It’s claimed that Romero’s representatives were ‘unimpressed’ by the goalkeeper being left out of Sunday’s Europa League semi-final clash with Sevilla.

Romero has largely been United’s cup goalkeeper, but when it came to the big game on Sunday, Romero was ditched in favour of David De Gea.

His representatives are now trying to generate interest in a summer deal, with Romero seemingly fed up with his role at Old Trafford.

Dean Henderson’s return is a factor too, and the news may be a real boost for the likes of Everton and Leeds United.

ESPN reported last month that Everton and Leeds have both identified Romero as a top summer target as they look for new goalkeepers.

The 33-year-old may now want to play first-team football given his frustration at United, and he could receive that chance elsewhere.

If Leeds want a veteran goalkeeper to replace Kiko Casilla and aid Illan Meslier’s development, then Romero certainly makes sense.

Neither Leeds nor Everton will ultimately want to sink big money into Romero given his age, but his annoyance does bode well for them if they want him.
