Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could be able to sign Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window if they are willing to pay £50 million.

That’s according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs in CaughtOffSide.

The journalist has reported that Wolves wanted £75 million for Neves last summer, but the Premier League club could now sell the Portugal international midfielder – described as “a top, top player” and “sensational” by former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Sky Sports Premier League (7:29pm, March 18, 2022) – for £50 million.

The Sun on Sunday (19/3; page 64) have reported that Arsenal are among the clubs who are keen on signing the 26-year-old from Wolves in the summer transfer window.

Price-tag of Arsenal target Ruben Neves

Jacobs wrote: “A lot of attention will be on Rice, with Arsenal and Chelsea pushing, but Neves will be highly-sought after as well and is available cheaper than the West Ham talisman (perhaps even around half his price).

“That’s the silver-lining for Wolves. They may lose the Portuguese midfielder but be able to drive up the price a little due to a high volume of suitors.

“Let’s not forget last summer Neves was being valued at over £75m. His price has dropped due to the contract winding down, but Wolves would still ideally want closer to £50m than £40m.”

HITC Verdict: Arsenal should be serious about Neves

In our view, Arsenal should be serious about signing Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window.

We know that West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is a top target for the Gunners, but Neves would be another great addition to Mikel Arteta’s team.

The 26-year-old is one of the best and most dynamic midfielders in the Premier League.

Neves has been a huge success for Wolves in England, and at 26, he is at the right age to make a move to a bigger club such as Arsenal.
