According to The Athletic, Yves Bissouma has been deemed as too expensive a transfer target for Newcastle United.

There has been so much speculation about the Brighton midfielder over the past year.

The Malian has been lighting up the Premier League with his midfield performances for the Seagulls, and, understandably, that has led to plenty of bigger clubs looking at the 25-year-old.

In fact, there were so many rumours surrounding Bissouma that Brighton even released a video on their official YouTube channel simply titled ‘Bissouma on summer speculation’.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked as of late, while Newcastle had also been credited with an interest, but the Magpies are now backing away as they believe him to be too expensive.

If the richest club on the planet think Bissouma is too expensive, then how much do Brighton want for him?

A £50m fee has been touted in the past, which is a hefty amount for a player with just 18 months left on his current contract. Although, with Newcastle happily spending £25m on Chris Wood, you have to imagine £50m wouldn’t be enough to deter them from landing a player of Bissouma’s quality.

The midfielder has been described as ‘sensational’ in the past, so he’s certainly worth a lot of money, but if even Newcastle can’t afford him, you have to question whether or not Brighton are overvaluing their star man.
