Senior Tottenham Hotspur players were left confused why Fabio Paratici didn’t sign a back-up striker to Harry Kane in the summer, the Athletic report.

No striker signed

Tottenham appeared to be chasing a new attacker throughout the whole of the previous transfer window, with the likes of Dusan Vlahovic and Lautaro Martinez both heavily linked.

However, Tottenham ultimately did not add to their striking ranks.

It is a decision which appears to have cost them already this season.

Tottenham have scored just nine goals in 10 games – and while part.of that is down to Nuno’s defensive management style, it also highlights a lack of options.

Kane has been in poor form since failing to get his summer move, but Tottenham’s lack of alternative options means that he has featured in almost every game so far.

With Carlos Vinicius’ loan expiring, Tottenham only have Dane Scarlett as a recognised central striker in their senior squad, and he is yet to prove that he is ready to play a big role at first-team level.

Even Tottenham’s players are now believed to be stunned that the club didn’t make the purchase of a new number nine in the summer.

Whether Paratici will now make purchasing a striker in January a priority remains to be seen.

It is believed that Antonio Conte will have plenty of money to spend in the new year, and it will be interesting to see what his transfer plans are.
