Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay could be on the move this month.
According to BBC Sport, Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay could head out on loan, and is attracting interest from Scottish clubs.
McTominay forced his way into the United first team last season, and became a favourite under Jose Mourinho despite a modest billing from the club’s academy.
The 22-year-old has only made eight appearances this season though, and as a host of midfield options are at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s disposal, he may be on the move.
BBC Sport claim United haven’t yet decided whether to loan McTominay out, but the five-cap Scotland international could be loaned out – possibly to Scotland.
Clubs like Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibernian may be keen, but many will wonder whether Scotland’s biggest two clubs, Celtic and Rangers, will be in the race to sign him.
Celtic may well be in the market for a midfielder, with James McCarthy already linked, but a longer-term signing would be wanted to succeed Scott Brown in holding midfield.
United seemingly aren’t ready to sell 6ft 4in ace McTominay, so a loan-to-buy option may not be possible for Celtic, even if it may be ideal for the Bhoys.
Meanwhile, Rangers are negotiating to get Glen Kamara – already signed to a pre-contract agreement – in from Dundee this month.
If that deal can’t be agreed, a loan move to bolster Steven Gerrard’s midfield until Kamara does arrive could make some sense, even with a host of midfielders already at Ibrox.
McTominay would though offer a bigger, more athletic option than the likes of Jordan Rossiter and Graham Dorrans, so it’s easy to his value until Kamara can arrive.
Neither side are absolutely begging for a McTominay deal, but both could feasibly launch moves for him towards the end of the window, if they don’t land their top targets.
