According to the Daily Mail, Derby County have blocked Manchester City’s attempts to sign Scott Carson on a permanent basis.
It’s stated that Derby won’t cancel their loan agreement with City, which sees the Premier League giants paying two instalments of £500,000 to cover his wages.
City want to sort out a permanent deal, but Derby need that payment to cover wages for players at Pride Park as their financial issues continue.
Carson is though to be angry that Derby are blocking a move, which City prepared to offer him the security of an 18-month deal at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola wants him to stay, whilst fellow goalkeepers Ederson and Zack Steffen are ‘eager’ to keep working with Carson – but right now, Derby rely too much on City’s loan fee.
This is quite bizarre stuff; Carson is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning City likely don’t want to pay too much to sign him on a permanent basis.
Would it not make sense for City to pay £500k to turn the move permanent, with Derby keeping the money they need and Guardiola getting the man he wants?
The transfer window is always full of these games, and few could have expected one to emerge over Carson given that he has yet to even play for City in 18 months on loan at the club.
The 35-year-old seemingly wants to stay, but his future now rests in the hands of City and Derby as they look to thrash out an agreement.
