According to Bild, Schalke want to sign Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson in a situation that involves Newcastle United massively.
Andersson is one of the most in demand strikers around right now, having enjoyed a superb season in the Bundesliga with Union.
The 28-year-old hit 12 goals and three assists in 33 games for Union, and he now looks set to make a move on this summer.
It’s now claimed that Schalke want to sign Andersson, but they don’t have much money to spend – and that’s where Newcastle come in.
Bild’s report states that Schalke may need to sell midfielder Nabil Bentaleb to fund a move for Andersson, so are hoping Newcastle purchase him at the end of his loan spell.
The Algerian showed quality against West Ham United on Sunday, but then struggled at Manchester City on Wednesday, meaning his future is unclear.
The twist comes in that Newcastle also want Andersson; Kicker claim that the Magpies fancy signing him given that they can land him for a bargain price thanks to a release clause in his contract.
Signing Bentaleb permanently could see Newcastle miss out on Andersson, but the Magpies may yet have the spending power to leave Schalke gutted by signing Andersson as well as Bentaleb.
