BBC Sport have claimed Champions League side Schalke have tabled an offer for West Ham United striker Lucas Perez ahead of Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

Schalke are looking for reinforcements before the end of the window, with a busy February ahead as they look to beat Manchester City in the last 16 of the Champions League – with the first leg in Germany on February 20.

Their search for a new striker has seen them turn to West Ham and to Perez, who has struggled at the London Stadium since completing a £4million move to east London from Arsenal.

Perez, 30, first came to England in the summer of 2016 after scoring 19 goals and creating 11 more in just 39 league and cup outings for Deportivo La Coruna. But he has failed to reignite that form.

Seven goals and five assists in 21 Arsenal games was not enough and Perez was loaned back to Deportivo during 2017-18. In the summer, Unai Emery allowed him to join Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

He has managed five goals in 14 appearances for West Ham, but only two of those have come in the Premier League. He has cost the Hammers £800,000 a goal.

Perez has been linked with moves away from West Ham this month, with the Daily Mail claiming Perez wanted to join Spanish side Real Betis. Now, Champions League football could be on the horizon for Perez.
