Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) want to hire former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard as the new Newcastle United manager, according to The Telegraph.

What’s the story?

The Telegraph are reporting that PIF like the idea of Lampard taking over at Newcastle.

Why?

Well, according to the report, the Saudi Arabians believe that three-time Premier League and one-time Champions League winner will be a big name who will be a pull for top players and sponsors.

PIF own 80% of Newcastle.

Would Frank Lampard be a good fit for Newcastle United?

Lampard is without a managerial role at the moment.

This means that the 43-year-old is available now, so Newcastle will not have to negotiate with any club.

The problem is that Lampard is used to playing with and managing top players.

The former England international midfielder is not used to relegation battles.

The Englishman took Derby County to the Championship playoff final and then guided Chelsea to the Premier League top four.

Now, we are not suggesting that Lampard cannot get Newcastle out of the relegation mire.

No, not at all.

After all, we will not know until and unless Lampard is put into that situation.

But, in our view, if PIF bring in Lampard now, then they have to back him financially in the January transfer window and bring in the right players.
