The former Bolton Wanderers manager has been out of work since Everton sacked him.
The former Everton manager, Sam Allardyce, is being lined up for a return to Bolton Wanderers, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.
Allardyce, who has been out of work since being sacked by Everton a year ago, began his playing career at Bolton and also made his managerial name there.
The newspaper reports that the Chinese group, Shandong Luneng, have been shown around by the Trotters as they weigh up and offer to buy the relegated Championship club, which is heading for administration.
And it claims Allardyce, who continues to live locally, may be interested in ‘the job’ (presumably the manager’s, although currently held by Phil Parkinson) if their plan is to ‘invest and aim for the Premier League’.
One of the 64-year-old’s former players, Mark Taylor, is said to have accompanied the Chinese group, described as being ‘super-rich’, on their visit to Bolton.
As well as Everton, Allardyce has managed Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, West Ham United, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and England since leaving the University of Bolton Stadium 12 months ago.
The Dudley native led the Toffees to eighth in last season’s Premier League, but struggled to see eye-to-eye with many of the club’s fans.
