Saint-Étienne are reportedly on the verge of completing the signing of Newcastle United flop Henri Saivet.

According to reports from French publication France Football, Ligue 1 side Saint-Etienne are set to complete the signing of Henri Saivet from Newcastle United.

Saivet joined Newcastle United from Bordeaux for a fee of around £5 million during the January transfer window of last season and it was believed at the time that the Senegalese international would prove to be an astute acquisition for the struggling Magpies.

However, Saivet failed to produce his best during his time at St. James’ Park and following the appointment of Rafael Benitez as manager back in March, the 25-year-old did not see any first team football whatsoever.

Unsurprisingly, Benitez has not awarded Saivet any playing time during the current Championship campaign and it seemed just a matter of time before the attacker would leave St. James’ Park.

In what finally looks like an end to Saivet’s misery at Tyneside, French publication France Football have now gone on to claim that the former Bordeaux star is now on the verge of sealing his departure from Newcastle.

The report state that Ligue 1 side St. Etienne have reached an agreement with Newcastle over the signing of Saivet and the transfer is now expected to be completed within the next few hours.
