According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, sacking Jose Mourinho in the near future would cost Tottenham around €40m (£35m).

This would make sacking Mourinho Tottenham’s third-highest outlay of all time with the signings of Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele the only signings more expensive than the £35m mark.

The more you think about this number, the more staggering it truly is.

The fact that sacking Mourinho would cost over twice as much as the £15m fee they paid to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is jaw-dropping, and it also highlights how much of a waste of money it could be.

As things stand, there doesn’t seem to be any plans to sack Mourinho in the near future, but if results continue to go against Tottenham, Daniel Levy could be left to ponder what seems to be a very expensive decision.

We can only hope that things turn around for Mourinho at Spurs, otherwise, the London club may need to outlay a huge figure, and after their recent financial results showed a hefty loss, that’s the last thing Tottenham need, especially with an important transfer window just around the corner.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the coming weeks and months play out.
