McClaren, who left Derby County at the start of last month, was a guest as Huddersfield Town beat Norwich City on Wednesday.
Former Derby County manager Steve McClaren
Former Derby County boss Steve McClaren is in line to replace Norwich City-bound Stuart Webber at Huddersfield Town, The Sun reports.
Webber is due to be confirmed as the new director of football at Norwich, leaving the promotion-chasing Terriers with a position to fill.
And McClaren – who had an ill-fated spell in charge of England – is said to feel that his skills would suit a role away from the training ground, having been sacked as manager of both Newcastle United and Derby in the past 14 months.
The Sun reports the 55-year-old was a guest at Huddersfield’s game against Norwich on Wednesday, which ended 3-0 to the hosts, while he was also spotted at Rotherham United’s New York Stadium on Tuesday.

And his vast experience at Premier League level – having worked at Manchester United before going on to manage Middlesbrough and Newcastle – could serve Huddersfield well should they gain promotion this season.
Many of the Terriers’ squad have yet to experience top flight football in England, and the same goes for manager David Wagner.
Derby have since hired former Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett, who has won two and drawn one of his first three games in charge at Pride Park.
Would McClaren have better luck behind the scenes?
