Hardie has been on loan from Rangers at Livingston this season.
The Daily Record have reported that Ryan Hardie has joined Rangers in flying out to their mid-season training camp in Tenerife, with Steven Gerrard seemingly recalling the striker from Livingston.
The 21-year-old striker has been in excellent form for Livingston after finally overcoming a long-term injury to feature in six of Livi’s last seven Scottish Premiership outings.
In those matches, the Scotland youth international has scored five goals including a brace in the 5-0 win over Hearts, as well as goals against Neil Lennon’s Hibernian and Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen.
Rangers and Livingston had been in contact over Hardie’s future this season, with the Gers able to recall their loanee in January and it appears that Gerrard has decided to bring Hardie back to Ibrox – despite signing Jermain Defoe.
Defoe, 36, has joined the club from AFC Bournemouth on an 18-month loan, meaning the Gers now boast the 57-time England international as well as Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty as options up front.
It remains to be seen if Hardie has indeed been recalled by Rangers, with no confirmation from the Teddy Bears or indeed Gary Holt’s Livingston. But Gerrard will now get to see at first hand what Hardie can do, as the squad travels to Tenerife.
