According to Daily Record, Southampton have made contact with the representatives of playmaker Ryan Gauld ahead of a possible move.
Gauld’s contract with Portuguese side Farense expires this summer, meaning he will be a free agent and can pick his next club.
The 25-year-old has interest from Spain, France and Portugal, whilst Polish side Legia Warsaw have submitted a rather ambitious contract offer.
MLS and Championship teams are keen to, but Southampton have now made contact with Gauld’s representatives in the hope of luring him to the Premier League.
Gauld would allegedly fancy a move to Southampton in order to team up with compatriot and fellow ex-Dundee United man Stuart Armstrong.
Gauld was branded ‘mini Messi’ at Dundee United, being tipped for stardom before somewhat losing his way with a move to Sporting in Portugal.

This season, Gauld has racked up nine goals and seven assists in 33 league games for Farense, and now leaves as a free agent with huge interest.
Southampton now seem to be favourites for a bargain deal, bolstering Ralph Hasenhuttl’s creative options for next season and beyond if they can get an agreement done.
