Celtic playmaker Ryan Christie is set to start for Scotland tonight.
According to The Scottish Sun, Scotland boss Steve Clarke is set to bench Callum McGregor and James Forrest for tonight’s game with Belgium, but Ryan Christie will start.
Scotland lost 2-1 at home to Russia on Friday night, as John McGinn’s opener was cancelled out by an Artem Dzyuba goal and a Stephen O’Donnell own goal.
Qualification for EURO 2020 is looking difficult at this point, but Scotland have a chance to hit back and produce a shock result tonight, as they host Belgium.
Roberto Martinez’s men will be strong favourites for the game, and Clarke will make changes to his side in order to try and give them a scare.
It’s claimed that four players – Oliver McBurnie, McGinn and Celtic duo McGregor and Forrest – will all drop to the bench, with Robert Snodgrass, Kenny McLean and Matt Phillips all in contention to start.
The same goes for Ryan Christie, as the playmaker could capitalise on two of his Celtic teammates missing out by claiming a starting role.
Christie, 24, has been in red-hot form this season, smashing eight goals and five assists in 13 games for Celtic, and many couldn’t believe he didn’t start against Russia.
He will now have the chance to impress, and whilst taking on a great side like Belgium is a tough challenge, he will be looking to take his Celtic form into the international scene.
