Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand celebrates
Ryan Bertrand is ready to quit Southampton this summer, despite plans to extend his Surrey home, The Sun reports (24/03, page 65).
Manchester City are said to want Bertrand as part of a summer defensive revamp, with current left-back Gael Clichy out of contract.
The England international has shone since signing for the Saints from Chelsea three years ago, but the prospect of playing Champions League football at the Etihad Stadium next season could be hard to turn down.
The report claims Bertrand’s teammate Dusan Tadic will also consider his St Mary’s future at the end of the campaign.
The Serbian midfielder hit out at Southampton boss Claude Puel this week, allegedly telling The Sun: “I don’t think the coach needs to substitute me. I deserve more respect.”
Southampton are no strangers to losing key players, with Adam Lallana, Sadio Mane and Morgan Schneiderlin among those to have been prised away in recent years.
