CSKA Moscow are increasingly confident of winning the race for Adolfo Gaich after bidding £7 million for the reported Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion target, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

When you consider that CSKA are all the way down in fifth place in the Russian Premiership table, with just 35 goals in 26 games to their name, it is no surprise that the capital-city club are looking for attacking reinforcements.

And Gaich, an old-school ‘Tank’ of a centre-forward who has been compared to Robert Lewandowski and Erling Braut Haaland in recent weeks, could be the man to transform Viktor Goncharenko’s side into title contenders once again.

TMW claims that CSKA are confident of getting the deal done after making a £7 million offer.

San Lorenzo are under pressure to raise funds and Gaich, it just so happens, is their most sellable asset.

“Our idea is to sell the player in this market window,” said San Lorenzo’s marketing director Diego Dalledone, in conversation with FCInterNews, while claiming that the £12 million release clause in Gaich’s contract is ‘totally negotiable’.

Leeds and West Brom are jostling for the Championship title but, if reports are to be believed, they were also going head-to-head for the signature of a 6ft 3ins Argentina international.

Passione Inter linked Leeds with a move for Marcelo Bielsa’s compatriot, who looks every inch the kind of all-action targetman who could represent an upgrade on the talented if inconsistent Patrick Bamford.

West Brom were also linked via TYC in May.
