According to the Daily Record, Rangers are ready to make their move for Norwich City defender Russell Martin – if Bruno Alves leaves Ibrox this month.

Rangers have enjoyed a busy January so far, having brought in Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy on loan from QPR and Brighton respectively, as well as signing Declan John permanently from Cardiff City.

However, there could still be more new arrivals to come, given that manager Graeme Murty and director of football Mark Allen are working hard to bring in more new signings.

The Daily Record now report that Rangers are looking to bring in Norwich City’s Russell Martin, but only if they can offload Bruno Alves to make room for him.

Martin, 32, has been a mainstay for Norwich since his 2010 move from Peterborough United, making more than 300 appearances for the Canaries whilst also grabbing 29 caps for Scotland.

The centre back has started just four games this season though, and is claimed to be ‘desperate’ to join Rangers this month in order to play first-team football under former Norwich coach Murty.

However, Rangers currently don’t want to bring in another defender without letting one go, and an exit for Alves appears to be the most likely course of action right now.

The 36-year-old was a key signing for former Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha but has failed to live up to expectations, and with clubs in Qatar allegedly keen, Rangers could let him go in favour of bringing Martin to Ibrox.
