According to DV in Iceland, Dijon goalkeeper Runar Runarsson is set to sign a five-year deal with Arsenal.
It’s claimed that Runarsson underwent a medical with Arsenal on Monday, ahead of completing his move to North London.
The 25-year-old will only cost around £1.5million, as Arsenal go for a fairly cheap backup goalkeeper to replace Emiliano Martinez.
Martinez is heading to Aston Villa for around £20million, so Arsenal have decided to go cheap with his replacement in order to possibly reinvest the funds elsewhere.
Runarsson only played 11 league games for Dijon last season and hasn’t played so far this season, meaning his move is a little curious.
He did though work with Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana at Nordsjaelland, meaning they will now reunite at the Emirates Stadium.
Cana likely played a key role in Arsenal targeting Runarsson, as he is far from a household name; he only has five caps for Iceland.
His 57.8 save success rate was the lowest of any Ligue 1 goalkeeper to make 20 or more appearances since the start of the 2018-19 season, and that has to be a concern – but with Cana knowing him well, Arsenal may feel that they have got a bargain.
