Michael McGovern will be allowed to leave Norwich City this summer.
Norwich City goalkeeper Michael McGovern
Norwich City will allow goalkeeper Michael McGovern to leave this summer with Rotherham United keen to take him on a season-long loan, reports the Eastern Daily Press.
McGovern only arrived at Carrow Road last summer from Hamilton Academical, having impressed for Northern Ireland at Euro 2016.
The 32-year-old almost immediately ousted John Ruddy as the Canaries’ first choice, although his 15-game run in the side was brought to an end in November.
He went on to make another five league outings throughout March and early April, but is one of several under-contract players set to be shown the door at Carrow Road – despite Ruddy’s release.
Departing Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy
Yanic Wildschut, Steven Naismith and Matt Jarvis are the other potential casualties mentioned by the Eastern Daily Press.
It is claimed that Rotherham, who were relegated from the Championship this season, would need to pay at least some of McGovern’s wages to take him on loan.
The former Celtic player remains under contract with Norwich until 2019.
Norwich City goalkeeper Declan Rudd
Should McGovern depart, Norwich would be left with only Paul Jones and Declan Rudd as senior ‘keepers.
Do Norwich need to sign another goalkeeper if McGovern goes to Rotherham? Who would you like to see come in?
