Rotherham United are reportedly hoping to sign Leeds United’s Toumani Diagouraga this week.

According to the Sheffield Star, Rotherham United are hoping to complete a raid on Leeds United by the end of the week as they target a loan deal for Toumani Diagouraga.

Diagouraga, 29, joined Leeds from Brentford last January, penning a two-and-a-half year deal with the club as they beat Rangers to the Frenchman’s signature.

A strong and athletic midfielder who stands at 6ft 2in tall, Diagouraga was a fixture of Steve Evans’ side in the second half of last season, making 19 appearances and scoring three goals in all competitions.

The French ace started for Leeds on the opening day of this season in the 3-0 defeat at QPR, but hasn’t been seen since having been completely frozen out of the squad by manager Garry Monk.

Many expected Diagouraga to leave the club once the transfer window opened, but it’s now the 16th of January, and the midfielder remains at Elland Road – for now.

The Sheffield Star report that Yorkshire rivals Leeds United are keen to sign Diagouraga, and are hoping to complete a loan deal for the midfielder this week.

Paul Warne’s men remain bottom of the Championship table, nine points away from safety, and need reinforcements to stand any chance of clawing their way out of the bottom three.

It’s stated that Rotherham hope to have Diagouraga at the club this week – potentially in time to face Newcatle this weekend – with talks on going between the two clubs. Whilst an agreement has yet to be reached, Diagouraga is clearly surplus to requirements at Leeds, and an exit should be completed one way or another this month.
