Rangers are reportedly looking to bring ex-Celtic youngster Aaron Hickey to Ibrox.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers’ new director of football Ross Wilson will urge Steven Gerrard to make a move for Hearts defender Aaron Hickey in January.

Wilson’s move to Rangers was finally confirmed on Monday, with the Scot making the switch to Ibrox more than two years since the Gers first attempted to lure him from Southampton.

He will now be looking to put plans in place for the January transfer window, and it seems that he already wants one of his Southampton targets to head to Ibrox.

It’s claimed that Wilson thinks Hearts talent Hickey is a ‘big star in the making’, and will urge boss Gerrard to sanction a January bid to bring the teenager back to Glasgow.

After all, Hickey spent time in the Celtic youth ranks, and the Bhoys have a 30% sell-on clause on the defender, meaning a move – which could cost £2million – would benefit Celtic, seeing them bring in around £600,000.

Hickey, 17, predominantly plays at left back, but can also play at right back and centre back, whilst he has impressed with his ability with both feet at such a young age.

Hickey looks set for a huge future, and his ability to offer competition for both James Tavernier and Borna Barisic would be massively valuable, whilst adding another top Scottish talent to the Rangers ranks.

Wilson wanted Hickey at Southampton, so it’s no great surprise to see him renew the interest at Rangers, and with Hearts fighting to extend his contract, the teenager may be faced with a huge decision in the coming months.
