Rangers are set to secure Ross Wilson, with his Ibrox move close.
According to The Telegraph, Southampton’s Ross Wilson has resigned from his position as director of football operations in order to move to Rangers.
Wilson has been a highly-regarded name in football for some time now, having impressed in roles with Falkirk, Huddersfield Town and Watford.
More recently, Wilson has played a key role at Southampton, with some of his work in the transfer market earning major credit.
Virgil van Dijk, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Jan Bednarek, Nathan Redmond and Oriol Romeu are just some of the players signed under the Wilson era, but that’s now coming to an end.
Rangers have been pursuing Wilson in recent weeks, and two years since he rejected a move to become their director of football, they’ve finally got their man.
Wilson has allegedly tendered his resignation at Southampton, and will now be announced as Rangers’ new director of football this week following Mark Allen’s exit last month.
The report notes that Wilson has a number of targets at Ibrox, and they are to improve the club in five areas; recruitment, scouting, academy development, medical and training ground infrastructure.
If Rangers get this one over the line – which looks increasingly likely – then it will be a real coup for the club, and a major step in the right direction for the Gers, more than two years since first targeting Wilson.
