According to a report in the Telegraph, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley is staying behind after training to ensure that his fitness levels are improved.

Barkley endured a difficult start to the season at Goodison Park, and he came in for public criticism from manager Ronald Koeman.

However, rather than be downhearted, Barkley has responded positively to Koeman’s words and decided that he needs to better himself.

As a result, Barkley has been working on his fitness levels – and has been running in his own spare time.

Barkley reportedly stays behind after training to do more fitness work, to make sure he is in optimum physical condition.

Barkley’s commitment appears to have paid off, as he has been in brilliant form for Everton over the past few months.

The attacking midfielder has been one of the Toffees’ key players, as they have climbed the Premier League table in 2017.

Barkley has spent the past week with the England national team, but failed to play in either of Gareth Southgate’s side’s two matches.
