Aston Villa owner Tony Xia sacked Steve Round yesterday, in what was an unexpected decision.

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Rongtian He could remarkably help to takeover Steve Round’s role as director of football at Aston Villa.

Tony Xia took it upon himself to sack Round yesterday, in a decision which came as a shock to everyone at Villa Park.

Although Villa are not expected to announce an official replacement, the Birmingham Mail suggest that He could take on many of the roles.

He has no footballing background, and is simply in place as Xia’s right-hand man.

It is a remarkable turn of events, which has caused some questions to form over Steve Bruce’s own future.

Bruce is set for talks with Villa today, but he is not said to be in any mood to simply resign.

Bruce realises the task ahead of Villa, as he looks to oversee a clearcut, while keeping the team competitive on a limited budget.

Villa could lose many of their key talents this summer, and it seems that they will have to make do with bringing in players on free transfers and loan deals.
