Sunderland had been interested in snapping up Everton’s Bryan Oviedo.
According to a report in the Liverpool Echo, Ronald Koeman has doubts over Bryan Ovideo, but Everton have rejected all approaches for the defender so far this month.
Sunderland are believed to have made an enquiry about Oviedo, and a number of Championship clubs are also said to be keen.
However, Everton are keen to keep the Costa Rican – at least until the end of the season.
Sunderland had felt that Oviedo would have bolstered their defensive ranks, as David Moyes searches for additions.
With Patrick Van Aanholt reportedly on the verge of leaving the Stadium of Light, Sunderland are looking for a new left-back.
However, it seems that they will have to change targets now, as Everton are not willing to allow Oviedo to leave.
The Liverpool Echo suggest that Koeman has doubts over whether Oviedo can become a regular starter for Everton, but the Dutch boss wants to keep him as back-up for the time being.
Oviedo has made seven appearances for the Toffees so far this season, but has not been given any first-team action since November.
