The Tottenham Hotspur ace is a reported target for Roma.

According to a report from Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma are prepared to wait until Tottenham ace Toby Alderweireld’s release clause expires, before offering just €12 million (£11 million) for the 30-year-old.
The Belgian’s current contract with Spurs expires in the summer of 2020, but he has a £25 million release clause inserted into his deal, although that expires on July 26th.
Alderweireld is arguably one of the world’s finest centre-backs, and it really is baffling why there have not been any formal bids as yet for the Tottenham man’s services.
That could all change over the next couple of weeks, however.
Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Roma are keen on the 92-capped Belgium international, but are reluctant to pay his full £25 million release clause due to his age.
The Italian media outlet claims that the Serie A outfit will instead wait until the release clause expires, before starting the bidding off at just £11 million.

Now, Tottenham would be mad to accept such a low-ball offer for Alderweireld. They would actually be better off getting another season’s service out of him and risk losing him for nothing next year.
The Belgian remains a very important player for Spurs, and who knows, he might yet sign a new deal with the north London outfit.
One thing’s for certain, if Roma truly want to sign Alderweireld this summer, the Italians will have to quite simply match his £25 million release clause, or risk missing out on the 30-year-old.
