Watford’s Gerard Deulofeu is clearly a wanted man after an impressive campaign last season but can Watford resist the temptation of a good deal?

According to a report from Sport, Italian side AS Roma are willing to offer £13.3m plus goalkeeper Robin Olsen in exchange for Watford’s Gerard Deulofeu this summer.

The report states that Roma were initially keen on signing another Spaniard in AC Milan’s Suso but with him proving to be too expensive, Deulofeu is deemed to be the next best thing. The former Barcelona man is considered to be a perfect fit in Paulo Fonseca’s 4-2-3-1 system and the Giallorossi have added a sweetener in the deal with the inclusion of Robin Olsen.

Olsen has been targeted by Watford before with TuttoMercatoWeb reporting in March that the Hornets had an offer ready for the experienced Scandanavian shot-stopper. A deal back then would have made sense with the uncertainty of Heurelho Gomes’ future but now that the Brazilian has extended his stay, Watford have no reason to consider this deal.

Ben Foster is more than good enough to continue as the club’s first choice with Gomes an ideal backup and mentor in the squad. The veteran’s extended stay also gives time for young Pontus Dahlberg and Daniel Bachmann to get themselves ready for a first-team role before the start of next season which would keep Javi Gracia’s mind at ease with regards to his men between the sticks.

Deulofeu, after his incredible campaign last season which saw him net 12 goals and net five assists, is an integral part of the Hornets side and losing him would be disastrous especially after how well their squad has shaped up under Gracia since his appointment.

Watford are in no real need to raise funds at the moment and selling arguably their best player will certainly be a step in the wrong direction ahead of the new season. Watford should rebuff any interest from Roma with or without a player included in the deal this summer.
