Roma are reportedly keen on signing the Tottenham Hotspur defender.

Tottenham Hotspur's Toby Alderweireld

According to a report from Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma have submitted a €20 million (£18.3 million) bid for ottenham ace Toby Alderweireld, but Daniel Levy is not budging.

The 30-year-old is out of contract with Spurs next summer. He had a £25 million release clause in his current deal, but that expired on July 26th.

Roma allegedly remain interested in signing the Belgium international, however.

Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Serie A outfit are trying to get Alderweireld on the cheap, offering just £18.3 million for the centre-back.

Tottenham are refusing to accept anything less than €25 million (£23 million), however.

Spurs are in a weak position though. They will not want to risk losing Alderweireld for nothing next year, so perhaps if a compromise could be reached between the two clubs, Alderweireld might just be playing in Italy this season.

Tottenham will obviously not want to lose the former Southampton and Atletico Madrid man, but if they receive an offer in excess of £20 million for the centre-back, it might just be in their best interest to let him go.
