Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko appears to have attracted new interest.

According to Italian newspaper Leggo, Roma have now asked about signing Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko during talks with the Premier League club about Toby Alderweireld.

Sissoko looked like a complete flop for the first two years of his time at Tottenham, with his huge fee looking like a monumental mistake from Mauricio Pochettino.

However, the Frenchman became an unlikely hero last season, turning in some superb displays whilst earning respect from supporters, who now absolutely love Sissoko.

Yet having seen Tottenham sign Tanguy Ndombele last week, it’s believed Roma have now asked about the possibility of signing Sissoko this summer.

This is a surprise twist in the tale between Roma and Tottenham, as their talks so far have surrounded Nicolo Zaniolo and Toby Alderweireld.

Corriere Dello Sport claim that Roma want Alderweireld, so Spurs have offered €23million (£20million) plus the Belgian defender to try and secure Zaniolo’s signature.

Nicolo' Zaniolo of AS Roma celebrates scoring first during the Serie A match between AS Roma and ACF Fiorentina at Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Italy on 3 April 2019.

Swap deals in football are often incredibly difficult, especially when Alderweireld has a release clause in his deal, but Spurs may now be put in an interesting position.

They could feasibly send cash plus Sissoko for Zaniolo, leading to Roma using some of the cash to sign Alderweireld, essentially striking a two-for-one deal.

However, selling Sissoko now would be somewhat unpopular, and whilst Ndombele has signed, Tottenham don’t have the deepest of midfield ranks, whilst Zaniolo plays further up the pitch, meaning Spurs may be reluctant to let Sissoko go as talks with Roma continue.
