According to The Sun, Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers wants to make another run at signing Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor at the end of the season.
It’s claimed that Rodgers wanted to take McGregor to Leicester with him in 2019, but Celtic wouldn’t let him go as they pursued a tenth league title in a row.
Now that hasn’t happened and Celtic are set for a rebuild, Rodgers allegedly wants to try his luck again by moving for McGregor this summer.
He isn’t the only Celtic player Rodgers wants; the report notes that Leicester are expected to make a move for Bhoys striker Odsonne Edouard too, in a potential double swoop.
It’s unclear just how much Celtic would want for McGregor, but with a £20million bid for Edouard in the offing, Celtic may be looking at more than £30million for the pair.
McGregor, 27, has been picked out by many as the heir to Scott Brown from a leadership sense in Celtic’s midfield, and with Brown leaving for Aberdeen this summer, he is needed more than ever.
Rodgers is known to be a huge fan though, branding McGregor ‘special’ back in 2018 having shown versatility and great tactical awareness for the Bhoys.
Leicester do have a host of midfielders already though in Wilfred Ndidi, Hamza Choudhury, Nampalys Mendy, Youri Tielemans, Dennis Praet and James Maddison, so a move for McGregor does seem a little surprising – even if Rodgers is a huge fan.
