Celtic are reportedly pursuing a deal for Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.
Brendan Rodgers with Lucas Leiva at Liverpool
According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are hoping to lure Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva to Glasgow this summer, offering him a reunion with manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Bhoys continued their unbeaten domestic campaign with a 3-1 win over Aberdeen on Friday evening, with Rodgers closing in on a remarkable first season in charge of Celtic.
Whilst Celtic are dominating Scottish football, they will be hoping to improve in Europe under Rodgers, and the calibre of his summer signings will be a big indication on the club’s ambitions.
Now, the Daily Mail report that Rodgers wants to reunite with his former Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva, who will be available on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva
Leiva, 30, joined Liverpool from Gremio in his native Brazil back in 2007, and whilst he made a slow start to life in England – as many players coming direct from South America do – he has grown into an important player at Anfield.
The holding midfielder has racked up almost 350 appearances for the Reds, scoring just seven goals, but he has been valuable protecting the Liverpool defence throughout his time with the club.

Now, Leiva is set to leave Anfield when his contract expires this summer, making him a free agent – and his former Liverpool boss Rodgers is plotting a reunion in a bid to strengthen his Celtic squad for the Champions League.
Leiva may be tempted by the move given that he would be playing in Europe’s premier club competition whilst working under Rodgers again, and he could be a smart addition for the Bhoys on a free transfer.
