According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are exploring a deal for West Bromwich Albion right back Cristian Gamboa, with a deal for Liverpool’s Andre Wisdom hitting a brick wall.

Brendan Rodgers has brought in four new faces since replacing Ronny Deila earlier this summer, with Dorus De Vries, Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair and Moussa Dembele all arriving at Celtic Park.

However, with Champions League qualification secured and the transfer deadline coming up on Wednesday, Rodgers may yet move for more new signings – and another right back appears to be a priority.

Saidy Janko’s wobbles so far mean Rodgers may look elsewhere for cover for Mikael Lustig, especially given that the Swedish international also featured in the heart of defence during pre-season.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Rodgers is looking into the possibility of signing West Bromwich Albion right back Cristian Gamboa, with the Costa Rican international well down the pecking order under Tony Pulis.

Gamboa, 26, spent much of his career in Scandinavia with Fredrikstad, Copenhagen and Rosenborg before signing for West Brom two years ago, having impressed for Costa Rica at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

A pacey, attack minded full back who stands at just 5ft 8in tall, Gamboa doesn’t really fit the bill of a Pulis defender, and that was shown last season as he played in just one Premier League game, becoming something of a forgotten man with the Baggies.

No doubt keen to play first-team football this season, Gamboa could leave The Hawthorns before Wednesday’s transfer deadline, with Celtic now looking into the possibility of snapping him up, most probably on loan.

The move comes after Rodgers’ attempts to reunite with Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom hit a brick wall, with the Reds demanding a lump sum as part of a potential loan deal – something Celtic seemingly aren’t so keen to do.

A deal for Wisdom could still be resurrected, on which case the 23-year-old would become the fourth player to reunite with Rodgers this summer after De Vries, Toure and Sinclair – but with Gamboa eyed up too, Celtic are covering all bases ahead of the transfer deadline.
