According to The Mirror, Celtic are interested in snapping up Schalke striker Franco Di Santo as they consider life after Moussa Dembele.
The Bhoys have seen Dembele smash 40 goals in 70 games for the club since his 2016 move from Fulham, and his exploits have attracted major interest.
Dembele could yet be on the move this month as Premier League clubs eye up moves for the Frenchman, and Celtic may need to line up potential replacements.
The Mirror now report that Celtic are interested in signing Schalke striker Franco Di Santo, who worked with manager Rodgers in the youth ranks at Chelsea.
Di Santo, 28, impressed with Audax Italiano before heading to Chelsea in 2008, but hasn’t quite lived up to his billing having made just 16 appearances for the Blues.
Since leaving Chelsea for Wigan Athletic in 2010, Di Santo has turned out for Werder Bremen and now Schalke, though he has scored just four league goals in 52 games for Schalke, including just two goals this term.
The Argentinian has been a hard-working centre forward with good link-up play, but his goal record has been disappointing in recent years, which may give Celtic fans some cause for concern.
As a player Rodgers knows, Di Santo may make some sense as a target, but history doesn’t suggest that he would be able to replace Dembele’s goal return.
