Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Robert Huth, and a potential deal has perhaps received a slight boost.

Robert Huth of Leicester City looks on during the Premier League match between Leicester City and West Ham United at The King Power Stadium on December 31, 2016 in Leicester, England.

According to a report from Birmingham Live, Aston Villa are understood to have held preliminary discussions with Robert Huth regarding a potential move to Villa Park, and while no offer has been made, the report suggests that the defender is thought to be willing to take a pay-cut at his next club.

The Villans are facing an extremely difficult summer after missing out on promotion from the Championship last season. Birmingham Live reports that the club have some financial concerns and Tony Xia is keen to secure outside investment and even open to listening to takeover offers.

Villa’s financial struggles have come at an extremely difficult time with a number of loanees returning to their parent clubs having been key parts of Steve Bruce’s side last term, while John Terry has also departed at the end of his contract.

Nevertheless, Birmingham Live reports that the Villans are working on trying to get new signings in, and one of the players who has previously been linked is Huth – who is a free agent following the end of his contract at Leicester City.

And it would appear that Villa may have set the wheels in motion for a potential move, with Birmingham Live suggesting that initial contact has been made, but no offer has yet been put on the table for the Premier League winner.

Birmingham Live adds that it is understood that Huth is prepared to take a cut in salary at his next team, and that should arguably help convince Villa to step up their reported interest.

The German endured a difficult last year at the King Power Stadium, but can provide much of the experience that the club have lost following Terry’s departure, and he is young enough to be able to stick around for a couple of seasons potentially.

And with any deal set to be a free transfer, and Huth reportedly prepared to not demand the same wages that he was on previously, it would appear that it could be a very decent move for the Villans as they look to get as much out of their budget as possible.
