Robbin Ruiter will seemingly land on his feet after his Sunderland departure.

According to De Stentor in the Netherlands, Robbin Ruiter has turned his back on a move to Sparta Rotterdam because he’s set to join PSV Eindhoven.

Ruiter, 32, will see his Sunderland contract expire on Sunday after two years on Wearside, having been signed by Simon Grayson in 2017.

The Dutchman had been a regular with FC Utrecht, but struggled to impress at Sunderland, becoming something of a misfit at the Stadium of Light under Jack Ross.

Now, it’s believed that Ruiter has pulled the plug on a move to Sparta Rotterdam, as PSV Eindhoven have hijacked the deal.

Ruiter is now expected to join PSV in a move that Sunderland fans may be stunned by, as he will now be playing for a major European club next season, one that will be in the Champions League.

Ruiter only played one league game under Jack Ross, and even that was just a 15 minute substitute appearance after Jon McLaughlin’s injury against Bristol Rovers in December.

PSV aren’t signing Ruiter as first-choice; far from it. Jeroen Zoet is their first choice, whilst they also have a host of other goalkeepers on the books including returning loanee Lars Unnerstall, Yanick van Osch and Hidde Jurjus.

It seems that Ruiter is being signed by PSV as a replacement for out of contract Eloy Room, giving Mark van Bommel another veteran Eredivisie goalkeeper to work with as Ruiter makes a huge move after his Sunderland exit.
