According to The Telegraph, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants to take Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract situation into his own hands.
It’s claimed that Arsenal have yet to actually make a formal offer to Aubameyang, whose contract expires at the end of next season.
Arteta is ‘desperate’ to keep him though, and Arteta wants to initiate talks over a new deal rather than leave the matter in the club’s hands.
The Spaniard allegedly believes he can impress Aubameyang and his father by taking a hands-on approach to the situation.
Arsenal may be under pressure to sell Aubameyang this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal, and he certainly wouldn’t be easy to replace.
The 30-year-old has hit 17 goals in 26 Premier League games this season, and even when shoved out on the left flank, he is still Arsenal’s most dangerous goal threat.

Arsenal can’t really afford to lose Aubameyang right now. With Alexandre Lacazette’s contract also just a year away from expiration, Arsenal are in a tricky spot.
Arteta will hope that his hands-on approach can tempt Aubameyang into staying, but with money tight due to the global pandemic, this could be a difficult task.
