Tottenham Hotspur could sign long-term target Marcel Sabitzer from Red Bull Leipzig for just £12 million this summer, the Athletic report.
Tottenham have been linked with Sabitzer for around 12 months now, with the attacking midfielder believed to be on Spurs’ transfer wishlist.
The news that he is available so cheaply, therefore, may well appeal to Spurs.
Just a year ago Sabitzer had been valued at £45 million (Bild), with Leipzig wanting to warn off competitors.
However, the Austrian, who was hailed as ‘remarkable’ by Ralph Rangnick (Buli News) has shown no indication that he wants to stay with the club, and with him having just one year left on his contract, it seems that the German side are now willing to accept a hugely reduced fee.
That may have been Daniel Levy’s plan all along, and it could be the reason why Tottenham haven’t pushed on with signing him before.

At £12 million Sabitzer now looks like one of the bargains of the summer, and with Spurs having a limited budget he surely appeals.
Tottenham, though, are unlikely to be making any transfer bids for the time being, as they have no new manager in place.
Spurs are still looking to appoint Jose Mourinho’s replacement, and they may have to hope that a rival side doesn’t swoop in and steal Sabitzer, before they have made their move now.
