Henen was released by Everton with his previous contract set to expire at the end of the month.
Striker David Henen has returned to his home country of Belgium after being released by Everton, and is training with Royal Antwerp according to Belgian newspaper HLN.
Henen, 22, failed to make a single senior appearance for the Toffees during his time on Merseyside, which lasted four years after first joining the club on loan back in the summer of 2014.
Instead, Henen was loaned to Fleetwood Town and became a regular member of the club’s Under-23 side, making 15 appearances under David Unsworth throughout 2017-18 and scoring four goals.
However, Henen’s contract ends at the end of the month and the Toffees decided to forget about extending his contract and instead released the attacker on a free – allowing Henen to search for a new club.
Now, Antwerp have taken up that option by inviting him to train with the club, while negotiations over a move to the Belgian top-tier side continue.
Henen has an impressive CV after spells with Everton, Olympiakos, Anderlecht and Monaco, but is yet to live up to his lofty expectations.
