According to The Shields Gazette, Newcastle United have offered a four-week trial to Hebburn Town striker Cedwyn Scott.
It’s claimed that Sunderland had two scouts watching Scott in action against Newcastle Benfield last month, and were hoping to land him.
Morecambe were also keen, but Newcastle have now swooped in to frustrate their bitter rivals by making an official move for the 21-year-old.
Newcastle have offered Scott a four-week trial spell, and he will initially join up with Chris Hogg’s Under-23 side on Monday.
Scott has been in sensational form in Northern League Division One, smashing 20 goals in his last nine outings to spark professional interest.
Formerly of Huddersfield Town, Scott has also spent time with Dundee, Berwick Rangers and Forfar Athletic, as well as Darlington and Dunston UTS.

He now has the chance to win a deal with Newcastle, who are showing they will look anywhere for talent following deals for Ludwig Francillette and Florent Indalecio.
It’s a huge jump for Scott to make, but having seen former non-league players Michail Antonio and Jamie Vardy become Premier League stars, he won’t be short of inspiration when he begins training tomorrow.
