Former Tottenham Hotspur head of recruitment Paul Mitchell wants to become the new sporting director of Chelsea, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported on Twitter that Mitchell, who had a spell a Chelsea’s London and Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, “really wants the job” at Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea are in advanced talks with RB Salzburg’s sporting director Christoph Freund, according to Jacobs, who has added that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners also have Mitchell on their list.

Mitchell left Southampton in November 2014 and moved to Tottenham to ‘oversee the club’s recruitment and analysis departments’, according to The Guardian.
The 40-year-old resigned from his role as the Tottenham head of recruitment in August 2016, as reported by The Guardian.
Mitchell was credited with the signings of Victor Wanyama, Toby Alderweireld, Son Heung-min and Clinton Njie among others when he was at Tottenham.
The Englishman was appointed as the Head of Recruitment and Development at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in February 2018.
Mitchell became the AS Monaco sporting director in June 2020.
