It could be terrible for Tottenham Hotspur if Real Madrid pursue Giovani Lo Celso – for two reasons.
Estadio Deportivo has reported that Real Madrid have been ‘strongly advised’ to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Giovani Lo Celso.
Sky Sports claimed on Saturday that Tottenham were still hopeful of signing the £70 million-rated Real Betis attacker.
But Estadio Deportivo in Spain reports that Florentino Perez’s new advisor, Jorge Valdano, has urged the Spanish giants to sign the Argentine midfielder.
The report adds that Real could view him as the ideal replacement for Luka Modric.
Potential double whammy for Spurs?
Not only could Tottenham lose their number one target in Lo Celso if he joins Real, but the pool of prospective suitors for Christian Eriksen – the other heir apparent for Modric – would also shrink.
The Denmark international has already claimed that he’s ready to quit the North Londoners this summer and if los Blancos don’t need him, that’s one wealthy club out of the running.
The Lilywhites need to offload Eriksen this summer or risk losing him for free next year and if Real sign Lo Celso instead of Eriksen, it will put chairman Daniel Levy in a position of weakness in regards to negotiations.
Other clubs will know that Levy has to sell him and therefore Tottenham could receive less than what they would have had Perez bought him.
