Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to receive one final offer from Real Madrid for Christian Eriksen.
According to a report from The Sun, Real Madrid believe that they will be able to sign Christian Eriksen before the European transfer window closes, and are preparing a £60 million bid for the Tottenham star.
Eriksen’s future at Spurs has been up in the air for much of the summer, and The Sun reports that Mauricio Pochettino hinted that he could still leave Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during this window – despite the Champions League finalists being unable to replace the Dane.
The Sun suggests that Los Blancos are confident about the prospect of signing the 27-year-old, with Daniel Levy unwilling to let one of the club’s biggest assets leave on a free when his contract expires next summer.
And the report suggests that a £60 million bid for Eriksen could be on its way as Madrid look for Luka Modric’s long-term successor at the Bernabeu.
It has been a slightly strange start to the season for Eriksen, with Pochettino leaving him out of the starting lineup against Aston Villa on the opening day of the new season. He was superb after he came on, and was picked in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City. However, his performance against Pep Guardiola’s men was much more underwhelming.
It would still be a big blow to lose Eriksen this summer given that he cannot be replaced until January at the earliest. But if he is not planning to sign a new contract with Spurs and Pochettino believes that his side can thrive without him, then letting him go for £60 million may not be a bad piece of business.
