Real Madrid are plotting to sign Brazilian talent Joao Gomes after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, with the La Liga giants hopeful of beating Liverpool to the Flamengo wonderkid.
According to Sport, Los Blancos are working to bring the 21-year-old midfielder to Spain after this winter’s competition in Qatar, with Madrid keen to bolster their long-term options in the squad following the surprise departure of Casamerio in the summer. Luka Modric’s age is also being considered.
As per the report, Gomes has a release clause of €60m (£53m), a fee Liverpool are willing to meet to sign the Brazilian youngster, yet Madrid are also afoot on the option, and previous reports have indicated that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are in the lead to land the promising youngster.
Whilst Gomes is yet to receive a call-up at any international level for Brazil, growing hype around the midfielder is increasing in the South American nation over the Flamengo star, and interest from Madrid and Liverpool could lead to a surprise inclusion for the youngster on the plane to Qatar.

However, whilst this update is quite an exciting one for Gomes and Madrid, Liverpool will be fuming if they’re humiliated once again by the Spanish giants, with Los Blancos beating Jurgen Klopp to Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer, with Jude Bellingham also reportedly keen to move to the La Liga champions.
Indeed, it’s been transfer blow after transfer blow for Liverpool in recent weeks, and missing out on a talent like Gomes is another damming update for the Premier League side, who are in need of an exciting central midfielder to join Harvey Elliott and to succeed the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the squad.
Madrid signing Joao Gomes feels like an inevitably now

After missing out on Neymar all those years ago, Madrid have made it a mission to always be at the front of the queue for the latest and best Brazilian talents. And because of this, Gomes signing for the Spanish giants feels like an inevitability at this point, much to Liverpool’s frustration.
With Madrid fine-tuning their transfer strategy in recent years and putting their faith in youth, Gomes could become a star for Ancelotti’s side in the years to come, and Liverpool will have to rethink their transfer strategy in January and look for another midfield target in 2023.
