According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid are interested in signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, who has fallen out of favour at Anfield.

What’s the story?

Well, the £75,000-a-week man was once one of the first names on Jürgen Klopp’s teamsheet alongside Virgil van Dijk.

However, injuries took their toll, and Gomez now finds himself behind Van Dijk, Joël Matip and Ibrahima Konaté at Liverpool.

The Daily Mail believe the 24-year-old is likely to feature for the Reds more often in the second half of the campaign.

It is also said that Real Madrid have identified Antonio Rudiger, Matthijs de Ligt, Pau Torres and Jules Kounde as options, as well as Gomez.

The Daily Mail mention Gomez’s recent links to Aston Villa and Steven Gerrard, although they believe that move isn’t feasible at the moment.

So far this season, the former Charlton man has played just 14 minutes of Premier League football, across three substitute appearances.

Liverpool could lose Joe Gomez

In our view, Liverpool now have a real fight on their hands to keep the £3.5m man at Anfield.

According to 90min, Gomez is becoming agitated at his lack of game time under Klopp, and is starting to worry about missing out on the 2022 World Cup.

That, coupled with the fact that Real Madrid are one of the biggest clubs on the planet, means it will be tough for Liverpool to convince their No.12 to stay.

You can’t really blame Gomez if he pushes for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

After all, very few players wouldn’t be interested in swapping a bench role for a place in the starting XI at one of Europe’s greatest clubs.

If Gomez does opt to push for this move, Klopp can have few complaints – the Catford-born centre-back is far too good to be a reserve option.
