According to the Daily Star, Real Madrid want to lure Arsenal and Tottenham target Raheem Sterling away from the Premier League, after missing out on Kylian Mbappe.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish giants were hoping to sign Mbappe when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired next month.

However, the France international has now decided to stay in Paris, meaning Carlo Ancelotti must turn his attention elsewhere.

The Italian has seemingly set his sights on Sterling, which will come as a blow to Arsenal and Tottenham, who are both interested.

So far this season, the 27-year-old has been used sporadically by Pep Guardiola, and was not entrusted to start either leg of the Champions League semi-final.

As a result, the Daily Star believe Real Madrid are plotting a £50m move for the England international, who is entering the final 12 months of his £350,000-a-week contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The Kingston-born forward finished the season with 17 goals and nine assists in 47 appearances, as Manchester City won the Premier League title.

Bad news for Arsenal & Tottenham

For the Arsenal and Tottenham fans hoping to see Sterling at their respective clubs, this is not good news – to say the least.

As mentioned by the Daily Star, the Manchester City No.7 has previously expressed his love for Real Madrid, and even sat down for an interview with Spanish outlet AS with a Real Madrid shirt over his shoulder.

Therefore, if the Champions League finalists really do submit a bid, we believe Sterling will be interested in making the move happen.

David Ornstein recently revealed that Sterling wants to join a major European club, and has no interest in moving to north London.

Therefore, unless Real Madrid turn their attention elsewhere, it doesn’t seem as if Mikel Arteta or Antonio Conte will win this transfer battle.
