Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing the Tottenham Hotspur ace.

Toby Alderweireld #4 of Tottenham Hotspur passes the ball in the second half against Roma during the International Champions Cup on July 25, 2017 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

According to a report from Spanish media outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid have identified Tottenham centre-back Toby Alderweireld as one of their key summer transfer targets.

The Belgian has played a peripheral role for Spurs this season, making just 10 Premier League starts, although injuries have certainly played their part in that.

According to a report from the Mirror, the 29-year-old could be available for around £55 million this summer, and despite his worrying track record with injuries, that would still be considered as good value in today’s ludicrously inflated transfer market.

With Davinson Sanchez’s emergence this season, the thought of losing Alderweireld in the summer will not fill the Tottenham fans with the same amount of dread as it would have this time last year.

If the north London outfit do manage to recoup around £55 million for the 29-year-old this summer, it would surely be considered as good business, for two reasons.

Firstly, because they paid Atletico Madrid just £11.5 million for his services in the summer of 2015.

Secondly, Alderweireld has a £25 million buy-out clause inserted into his current deal with Spurs that will be activated in the summer of 2019.

Whilst the Belgium international remains to be one of Europe’s best defenders, selling him this summer might not be the worst thing that Spurs could do, especially if they manage to farm him out to a club who are not one of their direct rivals.
